The Past is Not a Dead End!

When we started first working on the Camptown Cemetery in February of 2013, this sign was the only marker at the location of one of the earliest and most historic cemeteries in Texas.  It seemed especially irritating in light of several previous attempts to restore it, and somehow especially inappropriate for a graveyard.

We are proud to say that it is no longer there.

With the help of countless numbers of volunteers, the Camptown Cemetery is largely cleared, and their work continues.  This web site is dedicated to all these volunteers and their devotion to this labor of love assuring that our memory of the  past does not remain a dead end.

  1. I enjoyed reading this article and I was wondering if there's any grave evidence that can confirm two relatives of mine who lived in Brenham and may have died there in camptown...John w.Scott and Mary Banks Scott
